Dear Friends of ELIANT,

The EU is planning to significantly weaken the requirements for genetically modified organisms (GMOs): according to the new regulation for new GMOs,, these GMOs, referred to as ‘new genomic techniques’ (NGTs), are to be placed on the market without labelling for consumers, without proper traceability, and without prior risk assessment. These new genomic techniques include CRISPR-Cas, for example. The vote in the EU Parliament is due to take place in mid-May or early June 2026. Here is some information with background on the new GMOs.

This would mean that genetically modified plants and products could end up in our fields and on our plates without us knowing about it. Consumers, farmers and growers would not be in a position to make informed decisions about what they eat and what is actually grown.

Please help us to maintain the choice to decide for ourselves what we want to eat and grow.

We hope that in this way we can together convince the EU parliamentarians that labelling on the packaging must also be guaranteed for the new genomic techniques throughout the entire value chain, and that proper traceability and safety tests prior to market launch are essential.
