Anthroposophic Medicine is an integrative system of medicine based on modern natural science-based medicine. The latter perspective is extended by anthroposophical forms of therapy such as art therapy, external treatments in nursing, eurythmy therapy or specific medicines. These are based on a multilayered image of the human being which takes equal account of body, spirit, and soul in therapy and diagnosis.
In Germany, the Confederation of Anthroposophic Medicine (DAMiD) takes on the task of bringing together the whole spectrum of Anthroposophic Medicine across the professions and representing it in the public sphere, politics and administration.
Who are the members?
As an umbrella association, the Confederation promotes the interests of its sixteen member organisations. They include: the professional associations of physicians, therapists, midwives and nurses; the hospital association; elderly care; the German Association of Anthroposophical Social Services; as well as the manufacturers of anthroposophical pharmaceuticals.
What are the tasks & goals?
In the interest of its members, DAMiD works at political and institutional level to ensure the availability of anthroposophical therapies and pharmaceuticals in the health system, to ensure the inclusion of anthroposophical pharmaceuticals in the pharmaceuticals act and to advance the consideration of integrative medicine in research and teaching.
For example, DAMiD organises events, conferences and meetings, establishes and maintains contacts with politicians and authorities as well as with the relevant bodies in the health sector. The Confederation also sees itself as a point of contact for patients and provides information on all aspects of Anthroposophic Medicine within the framework of broadly based press and public relations work.
